Description
The Diamond Drill Assistant / Offsider supports the Diamond Drill Operator in all aspects of drilling operations, ensuring core quality and data integrity are maintained to the highest standard. The role requires active participation in achieving a safe and positive work environment, while providing opportunities for skill development in a dynamic underground mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with maintenance and operation support of electric/hydraulic diamond drill rigs, capable of drilling up to 1000 m depth (NQ/BQ core sizes).
- Ensure full compliance with all HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) policies, procedures, and standards.
- Assist in the proper handling and operation of all site survey and core orientation tools, including Gyro instruments and orientation devices, to support accurate data collection and geological interpretation.
- Ensure diamond drill core is clean, undamaged, correctly placed, and presentable for logging.
- Clearly mark core orientation lines and maintain correct sequence under supervision.
- Maintain tidiness and organisation of the drill and underground work area.
- Assist the supervisor with rig breakdowns, moves, and setup of the drilling rig.
- Support drillers in monitoring and maintaining core quality standards, including minimizing core disturbance, grinding, or contamination.
- Follow instructions to help maintain accurate drilling records, core trays, and orientation data.
- Contribute to a positive safety culture within the drilling team.
Qualifications & Experience
- BGCSE (or equivalent).
- Minimum 1–3 years’ relevant work experience. Underground experience preferred but not mandatory.
- Physically fit: capable of performing physically demanding tasks requiring strength, stamina, and dexterity.
